Governance

The University is owned and operated by the Seventh- day Adventist Church. It is govverned by a University Council whose chairrman is the University Chancellor and also President of the church in Eastern Africa reegion. The council does its work through the Administrative Board, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, who is the chief executive officer of the university.

Support

The University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, is supported by Seventh-day Adventist Church funds and voluntary contributions. The University, however, welcomes gifts and bequests from philanthropists for the purpose of providing student aid and scholarships, and for developing and improving its facilities and programmes.

Fraternity

The University is a unit in a comprehensive system of the Seventh-day Adventist institutions throughout the world operating under the auspices of the Seventh-day Adventist world Church (General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists). The system includes more than 5000 primary schools and more than 500 secondary schools, as well as collleges and universities in Africa, the Ameri-cas, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The University of Eastern Africa, Baraton,is a fully accredited institution of higher learning by the Adventist Accrediting Assoociation of the Seventh-day Adventist Schools, Colleges and Universities, and was chartered by the Government of the Republic of Kenya on March 28, 1991. It is also a member of the Commonwealth Association of Univerrsities, Association of African Universities, and the Inter-University Council for East Africa.
